When it comes to decoration of a house, the sizes of lighting fixtures and the furniture or room size creates a great impact to the overall décor of the room. With lamp table, it’s not different. For instance, when you select a too tiny or too large lamp for your table, it may suit well for functional purposes but not for decorative purposes of the room. When there’s no match between the lamp and the table, it might ruin the appearance of the tabletop and create an out of balance mood in a rather charming design.
When making a selection on the lamp, get the function correct and the size will come in perfectly fine. Here are a few tips on how you can get the most appropriate lamp size for your lamp table for a perfect and in-balance décor.
Measure height from eye level to table surface
This is necessary so as to approximate the average height of the lamp to be placed on the table. Typically, it is recommended that the peak of the lamp top should be in level with your eyes when seated. To approximate the height, sit on your chair next to the table where the lamp will be placed. Then measure the distance from the tabletop to your eye level. Use that measurement to consider the height of the lamp you will be purchasing. If the lamp is meant for your bedside table, then its height should be to your eye level when seated on your bed.
Calculate the length of shade
Measure the length of the shade as either 60 to 80 percent of the base length. For instance, if the base length measures 16 inches, shade length should be between 10 and 14 inches long. This will result in a lamp that is about 24 inches in height. Another way to make the measurements is by considering that the shade is approximately 1/3 of the total height. It should also cover the bulb hardware on the lamp base.
Consider shade with not less than 2 inches diameter
The diameter of the shade shouldn’t be less than 2 inches in respect with the base length. For instance, for a lamp with 16 inch base, the shade’s diameter shouldn’t exceed 14 inches. The length of the shades are listed from the top to the bottom with their width as diameter. The diameter can also be considered as the widest part of the lamp.
With these three tips you are sure to find the appropriate size of light fixture for your lamp table.
