The office table lamps were developed for a specific application, to provide lighting to area immediately around them, enough cover the area of the desk or a part of the desk. These lamps need to follow certain conditions in order to ensure that they could be used as office table lamps.

  • Ensure enough brightness to the area near the lamp.
  • Cover the area of the desk.
  • Be bright enough for comfortable working or reading.
  • Does not take up big area to be hindrance for work.

These are the four major points that define an office table lamp. A lot depends of the power rating of the lamp itself and design of the table lamps which controls the amount of light dissipating from the lamp.

Here are the most commonly used types of lamps.

Incandescent Lamps

This type office table lamp is known to give off a bright yellow light. This lamp simply gives light due to the light emitting property of the material being used, when electricity is passed through it. This type of lamp generally gives off a very bright light and hence it’s critical to check the power and lumens rating of the lamp itself before deciding on one. The major drawback of this lamp is that they are less durable and generally consume more energy. The up side is they are the cheapest, however, when it comes to value for money, they are not so good in that discipline.

Fluorescent Lamps

This type office table lamp is known to give off a bright but soft white light which is found to be quite comfortable for working and reading. The most attractive part about such lighting is the table lamp fixture designed for these lamps. They are very modern and sleek in design and build a very impressive presentation for the on lookers. These lamps are relatively expensive than the incandescent ones. The major drawback here is, due to their elongated form factor, their lamp fixtures sometimes could take up a large area on the desk.

LED Lights

This type of office table lamp is the latest to catch the market, with their prices dropping almost every day. The LED lights are great in terms of saving space on the desk and yet giving off enough light enabling one to read and work comfortably. They could not be used as individual lights, however, they are generally clubbed together to form different lumens rating and are used accordingly. They have more advantages than disadvantages and are best in terms of value for money, even though being the most expensive of all the types of lamps.
