Any indoor scheme is incomplete without ceiling lights. Market is overflowing with wide range of products and these have been relatively compact and are not much expensive either unless you want a pendant or a chandelier. Regardless of specific lighting need or the height of the room these versatile lights can be used in all spaces.
Semi – flush and flush mount celling light mainly fill the categories of all ceiling lights. But seriously, what does it means? Let’s put it in a simple way. Flushed lights are light that are directly mounted over flush against the ceiling. There is no space or gap between ceiling and the lamp, whereas, semi – flushed ceiling lights have extended piece or a stem which flushes with the base of the lamp, leaving little or more depending on design, space between flush and lamp.
Choice between two depends on the available space and height. In case your family members height is 6.5” and your ceiling height is 8’, then adding a semi flush celling light won’t leave much gap between the two. Also it will make your room look clumsy. Use of flush mount ceiling light should be done in such cases. However, if you have ample celling height, adding semi – flushed light will make statement for you.
For having a fixture lighting a minimum height of 4 inches is needed. This will provide enough room to select form wide variety of products. In room with only 2 inch or less height of lighting, a flushed mount lighting is needed that will feature a very thin profile.
Also another thing to consider is that is- diameter. Diameter will give you the footprint of the light once it is mounted on the ceiling. This will help to know how proportional it will look in the room.
The bulbs of the lamp are mostly covered by the glass shade. Type of light projected by the glass lamp has a dramatic effect in the room. For a softer glow frosted or etched lamps can be used, while for direct illumination use of clear is advised. For more intimate feel options like tinted or stained glass is prefect.
